A Straight Arrow and Operationally Primed G.P Singh Once Again Set To Lead The Force In Crucial Times Ahead
G.P Singh an IPS officer of the 1991 batch belonging to the Assam Meghalaya cadre got appointed as the new Assam police chief after the incumbent Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta retired on 31st January 2023. Singh's appointment as Assam DGP was quite predictable from Assam power corridors to New Delhi establishments, top sources say. The reasons for it are also quite obvious, an upright and straight arrow-like officer. Singh has a vast experience in crucial security related establishments. He is an officer who has good security and operational understanding which gets further complemented by his on-hand experiences in NIA and SPG, top sources say. Back In 2019, he was called back to Assam as ADG Law and Order to lead the force in a crucial time and environment which included tackling the violent situation in the state in the backdrop of CAA protests. Even, currently, the threat perception in North East especially when the region is going to reel under the election mode soon, exits, Singh as the head of the force will surely help in upping the security and operational tempo of the force in the upcoming time to keep the North Eastern region, especially Assam secure and ensure peaceful elections.
