As New Delhi Set To Become Power Focus, CP Delhi Sets Tone For Boots On Ground
With six months to G-20, Delhi Police is preparing hard to keep a tight security blanket over the events scheduled. Perhaps, after Commonwealth Games in 2010, Delhi Police is going to witness such crucial and sensitive event at a large scale. For Delhi Police, considering the present set of challenges that have vigorously evolved over the past few years, it's not going to be a normal security "bandobast". The nature of the crimes and specialized crimes have snowballed under the overhang of terror and cyber threats which is a major cause of concern for policing landscape and Delhi Police needs to watch out for it. These require high-quality revamps in Delhi Police and this revamp work begins from the ground and not from the PHQ. The boots on the ground need to be extensively groomed and trained with mandatory cultivation of strategic thinking as NYPD does with its deterrence models. We have seen Delhi Police Commissioner frequently going on the field for events or inspections. This may be seen as regular work however, top sources and security establishments say that it may not look that "regular". It appears that Sanjay Arora is gradually shaping an approach to set the tone for effective field policing and mobilizing the down-to-top approach" top sources in the security establishment said. "Cosmetic makeovers will not work, one needs to dig deep in the ground to prepare the force for D-Day", another top source said. A lot needs to be done in the span of six months but CP Delhi and his team are well aware and gradually setting the tone for major changes.
