As States Show Unseriousness Over Central Deputation, MHA Takes The Sword Out.

As States Show Unseriousness Over Central Deputation, MHA Takes The Sword Out.

The Center is under intense pressure to fill up the vacancies in CAPF and other crucial verticals, which is often complemented by the state government or IPS officers themselves. On one hand state governments sometimes refuse to relieve IPS officers selected for central deputation and on the other hand, some IPS officers themselves show disinterest in proceeding to central deputation and often refuse North Block from considering their name for the post of central deputation, top sources say. "This central deputation drama has become a serious issue," top sources add. Considering this perhaps, MHA was constrained to take out its sword. In a notification yesterday, MHA has taken a serious view on the state government's approach over central deputation and cautioned that officers who are selected and fail to join within a month would be debarred from Central deputation for five years. “If any officer, on being selected, does not join within one month of issue of his/her appointment order, either on account of personal disinclination or on the refusal by the concerned State Government to relieve the officer”, he or she would be debarred for five years, the Ministry said. Though, under the IPS tenure policy, the debarment of an IPS officer is also considered when the state government withdraws the name of the officer after she/he is considered for the post in the center. However, this time MHA presses hard on the word "relieving" this shows that MHA is strictly reminding the state government and IPS officers about the "sword" that might be taken out. With a massive number of vacancies that exceeds 200 posts looms how effective this "sword reminder" will be, the time will tell, top sources say.
