Exclusive: IB Chief Mahesh Dixit Is Set For Strategic Overhaul in Intelligence Bureau
Newly appointed Intelligence Bureau (IB) Chief Mahesh Dixit is reportedly preparing a heavyweight reshuffle within the agency, aimed at strategically recalibrating IB's operational capabilities, top sources say.
Special Directors Under Review
With Anurag having already moved out of IB, and Ritwik Rudra expected to follow suit shortly, sources indicate a pressing need to realign the 1994-95 batch of Special Directors, particularly those currently overseeing SIB branches.
According to sources, several strategically significant SIB chiefs, including the one heading the Mumbai unit, are likely to be recalled to Delhi. In their place, a set of Joint Directors are expected to be elevated to head key SIBs, a mechanism already in place for Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir SIBs, top sources add.
Beyond Personnel: A Push for Capability
Sources add that the reshuffle isn't merely about seniority or postings under Dixit's command, IB is said to be sharpening its focus on three fronts: First Expanding its assessment capabilities by widening its intelligence network Second Strengthening Multi Agency Centre (MAC) coordination for better inter-agency synergy Third Streamlining intelligence flow ensuring gathered intelligence is disseminated swiftly and effectively to the top echelons in Delhi.
There is also said to be a deliberate push to bolster Delhi's institutional strength, with an emphasis on seniority-based staffing to enable smoother, faster dissemination of intelligence at headquarters.
The Bigger Picture
Top Sources stress that this goes beyond a routine seniority reshuffle. The new director's intent, they say, reflects a deeper strategic restructuring one aimed squarely at optimizing IB's overall intelligence architecture.
