Its No More "Cop Thriller Drama" Rebellious DCPs Are Growing Headaches Ahead Of Crucial Tests Of Delhi Police
In 2014- 2015, former Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi gave opportunities to young DCPs to head the districts however later Bassi and even MHA gave second thoughts and reviewed the decision because young DCPs were driven not by fundamentals but by cop thriller dramas. In the present day, the same story seems to be replaying. This year Delhi Police is going to face a series of crucial tests by taking up the serious responsibility of guarding significant international events, program meetups, and whatnot. These significant event is going to put guardians of the capital to test in every domain of policing. Few important of them going to be professionalism, efficiency, coordination, protective and combative skills. However, there are few DCPs who despite having decent experience in the field delivered blunders, top sources say. This year there will be no tolerance or place for blunders, top sources add. But the chances of fiascos in Delhi Police still exist, and the reasons are convincingly discussed in power corridors. Out of which is a concern of coordination at the ground level which involves- a blind rebellious attitude of some DCPs, modern-day policing, especially in the capital, is governed by key fundamentals which involve sagacious attitude, patience, strategic thinking, and response. But for a few DCPs modern-day policing is still a 'cop thriller drama' thanks to masala movies and series though few exceptions are there who did some serious talking. Nevertheless, these cop thriller drama inspired DCPs with rebellious attitudes will become a problem and may translate to blunders when Delhi Police will transcend into full prep mode in the coming months. Even the courts are aware of these DCPs, In August, CP had to face contempt because of a serious blunder by the then DCP South Benita Jaiker. The court even remarked that Jaiker had no control over her district. Even the top brass was fumed about that development. Some say that her rebellious or arrogant and overconfident attitude become a headache for seniors at PHQ. In another instance which happens to be a very recent one, Court fumed over DCP Central Shweta Chauhan's conduct even her Additional DCP is not on the same page with her. Top security officials say that "these kind of developments are quite alarming, this will create issues during inter-agency coordination, especially at the ground level, Delhi Police is the starting grid of any established security grid for a VVIP protectee or event". We can't afford Himachal like drama in Delhi, when a union cabinet minister's PSO locked horns with a district SP and the matter escalated to a scuffle, top security officers discussed. For Delhi Police Commissioner, the familiarization period is over, and apart from reforms he needs to do some serious business and make some hard calls because time is running out, power corridors reckon.
