LG Outlined Four-Pillar Roadmap For Making Delhi A World Class Capital
Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, took part in various events organized by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) today. These included an interaction with NDMC staff at NDMC Convention Center; a visit to the zero-waste model locality at Anupam Colony, Chanakyapuri; and the inauguration of a Dental Health Awareness Camp at Dental Care Clinic, Dharam Marg, Diplomatic Enclave, New Delhi.
On the occasion, NDMC Chairman, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Vice Chairman - Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, MLA & Member - NDMC, Virendra Singh Kadian, other Council Members - Anil Valmiki and Smt. Sarita Tomer, Secretary Rahul Singh, Financial Advisor Rakesh Singh, and Senior Officers, along with employees, were present.
Hon’ble LG interacted with the dedicated NDMC family and commended the sanitation workers, gardeners, engineers, and staff who keep the heart of our National Capital clean, green, and well-maintained. He congratulated NDMC for securing 1st position in the ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ campaign.
While outlining a four-pillar roadmap for a world-class Delhi, he stressed safer streets for women and children through better lighting and Pink Force deployment, AI-enabled responsive civic services, zero-waste neighborhoods, and Jan Bhagidari as a shared civic responsibility. Our frontline workers are the true brand ambassadors of the city. Their safety, dignity, welfare and institutional support must remain paramount as we build a Viksit Dilli for a Viksit Bharat, the LG added.
While interacting with the NDMC employees, Sardar Sandhu stated that - “New Delhi is not merely the administrative center of the country; it is the face and first impression of India for visitors from across the world. The cleanliness, greenery, upkeep and overall appearance of the National Capital therefore carry immense significance. I deeply appreciate the dedication of NDMC’s frontline workers - sanitation workers, gardeners, engineers and electrical and maintenance staff, who work tirelessly every day to keep New Delhi clean, green and well maintained”.
Hon’ble LG said that the commitment demonstrated by NDMC during major international engagements, including the BRICS Summit, deserves appreciation. The ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and civic services during such important occasions and to sustain those standards in everyday life reflects the professionalism and dedication of the entire NDMC family. Achieving 100 percent source segregation under the Swachhta Hi Sewa Campaign is also an important step towards strengthening sustainable waste management and building a cleaner Delhi, he further said.
Well-lit roads, elimination of dark spots, effective grievance tracking, better service delivery, scientific waste disposal and zero-waste colonies can significantly improve the quality of life for citizens. At the same time, cleanliness cannot be the responsibility of the government alone; every citizen must become an active partner in this endeavor, Hon’ble LG highlighted.
Sardar Sandhu interacted with employees from various departments about their issues, including medical needs, women's safety in the workplace and surroundings, mechanization of sweeping, and the anticipated fear of unemployment due to the adoption of technology. Recreational facilities and a canteen for employees at the workplace, as well as the need for new employee accommodation, were also discussed.
Hon’ble LG visited Anupam Colony in the NDMC area, where he interacted with members of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) and appreciated their efforts towards 100% source segregation and on-site composting. The community’s commitment to maintaining the colony as a zero-waste neighborhood demonstrates how active citizen participation, responsible waste management and local solutions can make our neighborhoods cleaner, greener and more sustainable, the LG said.
He emphasized that the success of such initiatives should not remain limited to individual colonies but should inspire similar efforts across Delhi. By taking waste management to the community level—through source segregation, composting, and decentralized waste processing—we can reduce waste generation, ease the pressure on landfills, and build a cleaner, more sustainable Delhi. Anupam Colony’s example shows that when citizens lead the change, a zero-waste future can begin right at the neighborhood level, he added.
Hon’ble LG also inaugurated a Dental Health Awareness and Preventive Oral Health Camp at Dharam Marg. On the occasion, he interacted with dental experts and visited specially curated awareness stalls covering “Know Your Mouth,” Senior Citizen/Geriatric Care, Tobacco and Cancer Awareness, Child Oral Health and innovative 3D dental care. The camp highlighted the importance of preventive dental care and maintaining good oral hygiene as integral parts of healthy living.
