The Additional Director General In CRPF Nitin Agarawal(IPS: KL; 1989) led one of the most crucial anti-Naxal operations in Bihar and set a benchmark in CRPF operational history in making Bihar and Jharkhand Naxal-free states. According to top sources, under the direct supervision and guidance of the then CRPF DG Kuldiep Singh, Agarwal planned out a series of operations in strongholds of Naxalites in Bihar and Jharkhand- CRPF launched Operation Octopus, Operation Double Bull, Operation Thunderstorm, and Operation Chakarbandha were some of the key operations which were undertaken by Agarwal and his team. Top Sources of MHA further added that operations were executed in a campaign-style manner where strategic points of Naxalites and their presence were targeted which led to the arrest and surrender of more than 500 Maoists which eventually broke the back of the Naxal network. The operational brilliance of Agarwal is reflected in the fact that he and his dedicated team executed this operation silently and covertly making this operation a non-offensive one(without firing a single bullet) and thereby maintaining maximum operational effectivity and achieving the operational objectives. Usually, Naxal operations tend to be a high offensive operations which often leads to tensions in the area and sometimes affects the operational effectiveness in the long term, However, CRPF under the operational leadership of Nitin Agarwal this time focused more on strategically paralyzing Naxalites and forcing them to surrender than on offensively stepping up the operational ladder. This helped CRPF clean sweeping Naxals from Bihar and Jharkhand. Top sources in MHA say that Home Ministry had this matter as its top priority and had given the green signal well in advance to CRPF to plan and seek resources or logistical procurements for this operation.
