No Power Show This Year As Extensions Will Swing Again For One Last Time?
As the tenure of top guns is scheduled to end in a few months, power corridors are still hopeful for some change as this time they have a quite good list available for making replacements. However, the concerning question is that all those good choices are waiting for ages and most of them have now started believing in preparing for a peaceful retirement. "Few of them are still fighting hard for the top posts at DGs or even at CBI etc," a top and well place source said. But, a bitter scenario still hangs over them, according to some top sources it has been said that this year there will be no power show and extensions will swing again for one last time. This means that Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, CBI Director, and R&AW Chief will get one last extension completing a full circle of five years. " It appears that co-terminus functioning in bureaucracy keeps the apex level stable and keeps it in good pace," a top source said. If granted one more extension then the top guns will complete what may be called a co-terminus engagement at the center and most importantly, they'll be ones who will be known to serve extensively long tenure at the top helm in modern-day time specifically for present R&AW Cheif, Samant Goel. One top source adds that there is a smell of shifting towards an American style of bureaucratic functioning at North and South Block where FBI and CIA Directors get quite long innings to play." Indications dropped two years back when the government amended the CVC Act and introduced the provision of three annual extensions for top guns. "One top source says that continuity to a certain extent is valid but keeping deserving DG level officers in wait or sending them to cold for their remaining last few months or years cannot be overlooked for a long time." Whatever maybe the reason for the silence on the dust gathering offer list of DG emapnelled officers, one thing is quite clear extension provisions have not been whole-heartedly accepted by most of the bureaucrats in power corridors. However, one can also say that perhaps this may be the last time where extension is going to swing.
