Samant Goel Maybe Next NSA In Offing But Warmup Practices May Begin Soon?
After making a robust intelligence network and expanding the R&AW’s footprints globally, Samant Goel to pass on the baton to Ravi Sinha, Operation chief of R&AW. The long four year tenure of Goel perhaps bought back the lethality and power back to R&AW that it used to enjoy or remembered for during vintage time of 1970-80s. The slight difference or gap in today’s time would be complementing it with the advanced terrain of espionage business which is snowballing with high graded technologies. The decision to appoint Ravi Sinha is seen to bridge the difference or gap of integrating hardcore tech with the intel establishment. Goel’s exit and what South Block holds for him is something which is becoming strong buzz in the power corridors. Samant’s innings was no ordinary, it indicated that he fits well for the job of the next NSA which requires mix of hawkish operational mind and tactful diplomacy. Goel’s visit to Nepal and Srilanka are key examples of tactful diplomacy and strategically managing Af-Pak affairs to cracking down the possible upsurge of Khalistani are enough to show Goel is perfect mix of diplomat and operational strategist and certainly the present government will not let go Samant’s experience and will utilise it in country’s national security architecture to combat future security challenges so therefore his NSA credentials can’t be ignored. Top sources say that till 2024 general elections Goel might be appointed as Prime Minister’s Counter Terrorism Advisor, a similar move played during the first term of Modi government in temporarily adjusting former Director of Intelligence Bureau Asif Ibrahim as PM’s Special Envoy on Counter Terrorism when Ibrahim completed his 2 year tenure as IB chief. Predicting change at NSA level is quite difficult as it depends on various factors and next year’s government’s position in general elections but for now, Goel’s utility coming into play and his presence in national security architecture cannot be ignored or easily passed on.
