Brahmin Card In Uttar Pradesh Politics Ahead of Elections Next Year?

Brahmin Card In Uttar Pradesh Politics Ahead of Elections Next Year?

All political parties in Uttar Pradesh aim to curry favour with the Brahmins, a significant and influential community. The Samanwadi Party is preparing to celebrate the ‘Janeshwar Mishra Jayanti’ with grand festivities. This strategic move is not sudden; Akhilesh Yadav’s affinity for the Brahmins is a calculated political gesture, according to sources familiar with party dynamics. While Brahmins are dissatisfied with the traditionally dominant BJP, they acknowledge that at both the central and state levels, their community has received some representation. However, they say this is an insufficient source. Off the record, some Brahmins reveal that their initial support for the BJP was driven by temple construction issues, which are now resolved, removing a key reason for their backing. Currently, many Brahmins prefer to remain silent but may decide to express their stance openly by November or December, the source adds.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav, a prominent leader in propagating the PDA, is aware of the Brahmins’ restlessness and intends to capitalise on this sentiment during the upcoming state elections, the source says. Aside from the BJP and the BSP, no other political parties are perceived to have significant Brahmin leaders. Historically, Satish Chand Mishra served as a crucial intermediary between Bahanji and the Brahmins, but his declining health now limits his active involvement, the source explains. Given these circumstances, even if Brahmins wish to part ways with the BJP, they face considerable difficulty in identifying a suitable alternative party or leader who can adequately represent their interests in the future, the source concludes.
