Central Government To Curb Powers of Delhi Government?

Central Government To Curb Powers of Delhi Government?

WITC

The central government is trying to reduce the power of the Delhi government and the first step was to merge all the corporations into one. Now a committee has been appointed to decide the boundaries of wards sources say this gives ample opportunity to the centre to increase or decrease the numbers. The formula to decide the boundaries so far is not decided and till it is out and agreed elections of local bodies are not possible to source says. Bypassing the Government of NCT of Delhi Act last year the powers of the Lt Governor have been increased tremendously source says. The government wants to bring back the status of 1993 when there was no assembly, no CM, no minister and ministry, and no government. Source says that time Delhi was having the status of the centrally administered (UT) area only. If the program succeeds Delhi will have only Mayor and Lt Governor who will have unlimited power to represent the central government. In 1956 when Delhi was declared as Union Territory the provision of state government and assembly was dissolved source says. Is the delimitation likely to increase or decrease numbers soon source says?
