Emergence of Dimple Yadav Can Strengthen SP Prospects In Elections?

The Samajwadi Party, long considered a supporter of patriarchal traditions, is showing signs of change, sources say. Recent moves by Dimple Yadav, wife of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, have created the impression that the party is moving away from its age‑old principle, sources add. Whether at the Makar Dwar of Parliament House or during student agitations at Jantar Mantar, she has been seen participating actively, source says. For the first time, the SP has announced a scheme promising ₹40,000 annually to every woman in Uttar Pradesh under the “Stree Samman Smridhi Yojana” if it comes to power, sources say. Dimple Yadav is aggressively fighting for the cause of women and girls, probably to ensure their support in the coming state elections, sources add. Being a Rajput by caste, she is also attempting to penetrate that community beyond the traditional Yadav and PDA base, aiming to broaden the party’s reach, sources say.
