Exclusive: India's Grand Strategy Success In BRICS

New Delhi Declaration reflects the success of India's grand strategy and carefully calibrated diplomacy in BRICS. Top sources said that a careful mix of strategic separation and strategic autonomy, reflected in India's approach to diplomatic negotiations, enabled India not only to add practical substance to multilateralism but also to prevent the weaponization of BRICS and to shape global issues with India's imprint. Top sources add that bringing the UAE and Iran to common ground against the backdrop of ongoing conflict and further to voice BRICS's agenda, while maintaining the group's core relevance and strategic intent intact, was a major success.

Apart from that, ensuring BRICS's voice on global issues of financial and security governance was one of the key highlights. Top sources add that BRICS's unanimous support against terror and condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack, in voicing Global South concerns and consolidating India's leadership, was another example of ensuring practical and responsible multilateralism, a top source in MEA said.

India further ensured that its strategic interests and power left a strong imprint on BRICS by prioritizing several initiatives during its chairmanship, and showed strong promise in significantly contributing to global governance and economic advancement, especially through Digital Public Infrastructure(DPI) solutions, a top source said.  “The successful negotiated declaration not only shows India's strong commitment towards global governance and navigation of multilateralism, but also shows strong promise towards its strategic rise” a senior IFS officer said.
