Raghav Chadha's Political Challenge
Once regarded as a vocal champion of the downtrodden and underprivileged, Raghav Chadha now finds himself in a precarious position, sources say. Known for raising critical issues both inside and outside Parliament, his voice appears diminished after shifting political loyalties, sources add. The latest controversy stems from his name being deleted from a SIR-prepared list in Punjab. Against his entry, the word “shifted” has been recorded, sources say. As a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab but not a registered voter in the state, he has sparked speculation that his membership could be canceled, sources note. Caught in a dilemma, Chadha can neither openly challenge the mismanagement in the preparation of the list, a subject eagerly seized upon by opposition parties, nor remain silent, which could risk his seat, source says. He is reportedly making strenuous efforts to have the error corrected by the authorities involved in SIR, sources say.
However, senior BJP functionaries appear not to be helping him to the extent that support is required, leaving him politically isolated, sources say. His once resonant voice, especially on matters concerning youngsters now commonly referred to as Gen Z, seems conspicuously absent. Party actions reflect this silence, as he has not been included in any discussions related to Gen Z despite ongoing agitations, sources observe.
