Champat Rai, the international vice president of the VHP, was appointed as the secretary of the trust responsible for overseeing its operations. After the donation theft was exposed and accusations mounted against him for failing to prevent the incident, leading to an FIR involving some workers, including his driver, he resigned, allegedly taking moral responsibility, sources say. Bhaiya Ji Joshi, once a highly influential functionary of the RSS, was appointed ‘Sanrakshak’ of the trust after retiring from active RSS duties. Although he no longer participates in daily RSS activities, his influence persists, and he also resigned from the trust, the sources add. Neither of these individuals' names was publicly linked to the case, according to sources. The resignations of these two prominent figures and others from the RSS were viewed by observers as measures to contain damage. The RSS, traditionally revered for its integrity and discipline, perhaps did not anticipate such a stain, which damaged its reputation among followers, sources say.
