After Advisor, Center To Start Exercise For Chandigarh DGP?
After the appointment of Rajeev Verma IAS:UT: 1992 as Advisor to Administrator in Chandigarh, top sources say that the centre may soon begin with a search for a new Chandigarh DGP. The incumbent DGP, Praveer Ranjan, has almost completed a two-year tenure as DGP. Top sources said that his name is also doing rounds for central deputation in paramilitary organizations. As Ranjan said to have few weeks left in the office, MHA has started to make lowkey developments for the next Chandigarh DGP. Top sources add that MHA currently weighing on two options. First- Appoint a Special CP from Delhi Police as the next DGP(few names are in MHA's fray). Second- Shift the present Goa DGP to Chandigarh. Top sources add that MHA is giving equal consideration to both options, and recently, MHA's top brass asked a Special CP on his willingness for the next Goa DGP; however, Special CP, being now placed in an effective position, softly declined the offer. To some extent, this recent move of MHA points out that rather than sending a Special CP to Chandigarh, a Special CP might be sent to Goa as DGP. However, the possibility of the former cannot be ruled out if MHA gets a Special CP of a good match for Chandigarh. As Election season is apporaching with a directive to shift officers who have completed three years on a post, the picture is expected to clear soon.
