Complicated Calculations For CAPF DGs In North Block

After Nitin Agarwal's unceremonious removal from DG, North Block is in the process of reconsidering the appointments in CAPF. Top sources indicate that MHA is adjusting its approach, with a focus on operational leadership at CAPF. The potential reshuffle of CAPF DGs seems imminent, but the choices ahead for MHA are not straightforward, adding an element of intrigue to the situation.

The CPRF DG Anish Dayal, who has almost six months left before retirement, is trying hard to hold his position, but the top brass seems unconvinced by Dayal's recent performance and wishes to appoint a successor. Sources say that Dayal might be moved to NTRO, an R&AW-dominated space, especially at the top post of NTRO Chairman, which recently became vacant after Arun Sinha completed his extended tenure. But given Dayal's  Intelligence experience, he can be accommodated as an Advisor/Member in NTRO like Pradeep Kapoor, former IPS of Odisha cadre.

The competition for CRPF is likely to be between A.M Prasad and GP Singh, both of whom hold promising chances of succeeding Dayal. Given the security situation in Assam, Singh, currently serving as DGP Assam, may be called to the central deputation. His second in command, Harmeet Singh, is seen as an operationally competent officer to take over as DGP of Assam.

The Bihar DGP R.S Bhatti is being considered for DG BSF. Sources add that Bhatti's exit from the state is almost cleared, and most likely to be given a CAPF position in the centre.

Daljit Choudhary is most likely to be moved out from the additional charge of BSF and made CISF DG. If Prasad's elevation doesn't get a green signal, he(Prasad) will most likely be made SSB DG.

Top sources said that out of all the designated dark horse, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora is most likely to stay in the Delhi Police until the Delhi Assembly elections.
