DG CRPF Conundrum To End With Additional Charge: GP's Singh Future Takes Center Stage In North Block

In a significant development, it has been learned from top sources that there will be no full charge at the helm of CRPF due to certain developments in North Block. Sources add that CRPF's second in command, Vitul Kumar, will temporarily hold the additional charge for CRPF (at least six months). Sources add that NIA DG Sadanand Date is now being considered for full fledged CRPF DG. 

Interestingly, for current Assam DGP G.P Singh, North Block is considering more suitable options for him on the horizon. This puts him at an ambitious crossroads where, at one point, he is under the zone of consideration for NIA DG. On the other hand, North Block also sees him as one of the preferable officers for the next Delhi Police Commissioner if UT cadre Satish Golcha, unfortunately, misses the bus in June this year. If this happens, the UT cadre's drought for the top post will continue since 2021.

G.P Singh carries vast experience in strategic and tactical operational planning from SPG to NIA and thus is suitable for big operational jobs. However, a top source said North Block sees a long view before making a move on top appointments. "For Singh North Block has already taken a long view to how to put him at the right job at the right time."
