Glitters of Tihar: Why Senior IPS Officers Loose Shine In Delhi's Tihar?

Delhi's Prison is one of the high-profile jails in the country and a bit controversial one as well. Senior IPS officers have been in the limelight for handling prison affairs for a year. Such flashy affairs become public and undergo criticism and media scrutiny, affecting an officer's career and questioning its integrity. However, Delhi's Tihar is not only flashy from the surface, it is even flashy deep down, and the reasons are quite obvious: IPS officers handling prison affairs often get swayed by the glitters of prison affairs, and as a result, this creates friction in the chain of command, disturbing the smooth flow of jail administration. A similar story seems to be playing out with the current prison's leadership. Top sources say that the top brass of prisons seems to be swayed by the glitters of the affairs of the prison (an old story with new characters).

The alarming incidents of bringing a hardcore terrorist to the Supreme Court without any formal communication and collusive activities have raised serious questions. Top sources said such a state of affairs demanded an effective action, which resulted in a somewhat strong yet clandestine intervention from the top brass of MHA and Delhi Secretariat, which resulted in the top brass of prison slowly losing their strong grip over prison affairs, which sometimes or in some cases have become "whimsical"  as prisons affairs now have been under tight vigil of MHA and top brass of Delhi Secretariat. It is unfortunate to see that the government has to intervene with options; this indicates that prison's leadership is mired by the glitters of the prison world, and to set the house in order, a leash is deployed, but such "leash" will eventually end up in creating a spark between leaderships and hierarchy of government and jail where even deserving and bright IPS officers lose their shine.
