Sagar Singh Kalsi IPS: A Major Force Of Value Based Policing

Sagar Singh Kalsi IPS: A Major Force Of Value Based Policing

It's quite hard to bet on police, especially in busy metropolitan cities, to understand and connect with citizens' values and emotions, especially when they are attached to some personal belonging/material objects, but nowadays, things are shifting. Perhaps, DCP North Sagar Singh Kalsi stood with the test of time and made a fine attempt to push a new dimension of policing based on values.  Kalsi, in the endeavour of the same and realising the need of value based policing since his ACP days, revisited missing children cases that were unsolved/unworked and ran to a figure of Twenty-seven eight hundred. A team was formed, and an operation called Talash was launched where a team under Kalsi harnessed the cyber tech in reviewing piles of such cases and successfully rescued 681 missing children and senior citizens at the pan India level. A patshalala is also being run at the red fort area, where underprivileged children are given education by a head constable. The DCP Sagar Singh Kalsi ensures that every child should get a quality education and helped many to secure admissions at government schools for further education after they finish their basic learning. Apart from fostering value policing and emotional intelligence within the district, he seems to a slightly different from what we usually call community-driven policing, where policing is focused on police-public relationship and limiting anti-social behaviour but with Kalsi's value based policing, it goes beyond public-police relationship because it not only builds public trust but builds values, emotional intelligence and leadership, it can be said that the element of emotional connect in shaping public police relationship is quite high compared with the community-based policing. Perhaps, this value based policing in disguise has sharpened his team's cyber-surveillance/ monitoring' skills which he uses to keep an eye on the crime graph in his district, especially in sensitive and crowdy areas. Such value based policing aligned with tech and other policing measures acts as a soft deterrent against crime and streamlines misguided youth as well. Therefore, without a doubt, for Sagar Singh Kalsi, value based policing has not only helped him to make strong connect with the public but also helped him to bring down the crime graph as well.
