The CRPF DG Conundrum
CAPF DG appointments have always been a conundrum not only for power corridors but for top brasses as well. Last year, it happened with DG BSF. This year, it is happening with DG CRPF. Top brass's silence is testing the patience of many frontrunners. The current situation perhaps has made the calculations complex. CRPF is under Anish Dayal's additional charge, and SSB will also fall vacant by the end of this month. CISF is also under the additional charge of Nina Singh, which might get vacant due to power calculations in the Rajasthan bureaucracy. The conundrum, in this case, exists with the CRPF. Rumours are that Dayal would get a full charge of DG CRPF while a few 1989 and 1990 batch officers will test their luck in the remaining two CAPFs, i.e. SSB and CISF. However, top sources say that Dayal has no experience heading a CAPF. This was considered back then while Dayal was rehabilitating in CAPF after moving out from IB last year. CRPF was vacant after Kuldip Singh's retirement, but Dayal was chosen for ITBP. "Giving additional charge to Anish Dayal is seen as a mere formality," a top source said. It's been further said that there is still no proposal on the table for his charge regularization in MHA. As CRPF demands high operational readiness and experience, an IPS with an operational touch and strategic thinking deserves to head CRPF. But in Dayal's case such thigns are hard to look. One well placed source say that "Equations will not always favour you, there are certain exlusive and essential decisions which are guided by merit and professional competence. As the CAPF vacancy pool is expected to increase, choices and readjustments will most likely be revisited.
